This storyboard outlines the clips of the movie that our group intends to record. Each shot is taken using a wide variety of shots. These are the first few shots that our group intend to film. Our sequence starts with a boy on the wheelchair who's eyes start to close off. From here the camera shot we plan use is the close up shot of the boy fast asleep.
From here on our group has decided to open and record a new sequence of the boy dreaming where most part of the film will be recorded in the "Dream Sequence".

Dream sequence 5-9

From here on we will be filming the sequence of the boy dreaming. This will show shots of the boy moving towards the window in his room with the help of his wheelchair. Here he will see a girl where the camera shot will be a long shot. Here he will not see the face of the girl but may see it as he moves onto the next scene which will be a house next door to his.
The next scene will require the camera shot moving from the one person to another. This will include the camera behind the girl and moving towards a boy next to her and this shot will allow us to see the boy on the wheelchair too.
From here the camera has a close-up shot on the boys shoes walking around the room.

The fifth shot includes a wide shot which allows the audience to see the whole room of the mysterious man to create a sense of tension although the boy on the wheelchair will still be able to be seen. From here on the next scene starts where the boy immediately wakes up from his sleep with the extreme-close-up camera shot near the boys eyelids opening up. From here on, the scene will start back inside the boys room and repeat what he had seen in his dream.

Ending sequence shots 10-13

The ending sequence starts here where the boy repeats the same movements as he saw in his dream. When he gets close to the window the camera shot will show the reaction of the boy where the camera and sequence will stop which will maybe be a close up shot

Production Obsticles

19/11

We had forgotten that the opening sequence was set at night time, so we had to change the plot a little. Also the filming took longer than we had anticipated. We were planning on being back for break, but instead I missed my third lesson of the day. There was also a problem with the taxi as the company increased their price so we ended up paying more than last time to get back to school. We also specifically asked for a seven seater and the first taxi they sent round wasn't the right one so we had to wait longer for the seven seater to arrive which only made us later in coming to school.

3/12

When we were looking over our footage there was a problem with a few of our first shots. There were lines going through it and we didn't know how to fix it. Another problem that we came across is that we felt that our opening sequence didn't have a thriller theme feel to it. To fix this particular problem we have invented a new synopsis, which is completely different from our previous one. A good thing is that we arranged the synopsis so that we could use a few of the good shots from our filming in the new opening sequence. We have to now redo everything, including posting a new story board, screenplay and edit all our new clips in a short amount of time.

15/12

During the editing process, once we had thou we had finished, we asked the teacher for their opinion. We then found out that we had done out titles wrong and that they were meant to be shown throughout the opening sequence. We then had a short amount of time to fix this before our deadline, however we managed.

When we had thought that we had finished everything and that our opening sequence was complete, our teacher disagreed and told us we needed to add on more to make sure that it feels like a thriller. So we felt under pressure to get some more shots and edit them before our deadline. We planned and organised a time when the group could meet up up however only two of us showed up and we had to do our best under the circumstances.

We had the opportunity to spend the whole day outside of lessons to edit and finally finish our opening sequence. However it was suggested to get some more shots which only put our group under more pressure as we were running out of time. Once the shots were done I stayed throughout the whole of lunch to edit everything and make sure we did run out of time. By the end of the day everyone was pleased with our work, the only problem was it didn't coincide properly with the synopsis of the film. There was no way I was able to stay any longer after school to move things around, so my group agreed to let me go. They then stayed on to move around the shots so that our opening sequence would be easier to understand and actually link to the synopsis.

Production Successes

18/11

Today we borrowed all the filming equipment plus the wheelchair that we needed for our filming tomorrow. We had to order a cab to get everything to Zainab's house. This was because there was a lot of equipment just for one person to take on public transport, plus the wheel chair was very old so we were unable to fold it.

19/11

Instead of going straight to school our group met to go to Zainab's house to do our filming. We managed to get all of our shots done. Originally we thought that everything was meant to be done at night, however we only had the day to film in, so we made the room dark to make it appear that it was night, and then we made the second part of the opening sequence during the day as certain shots could not be made to appear as if they were night.

3/12

As we had faced some problems with our original footage and how it didn't seem to connect with the thriller theme which we are meant to present we managed to reorganize ourselves and create a new synopsis in which were are able to use a few of our old clips for our new opening sequence.

15/12

Editing process has gone pretty smoothly. After the preliminary exercise it's easier to work your way around final cut pro. Me and Zainab managed to come up with half of the questions and Niel and Trinesh the second half. Me and Zainab managed to produce our questions quickly and efficiently. Then Zainab went on to combining all the questions to create our questionnaire.

We had to add on a bit to our opening sequence so that it evident to the audience that it is a thriller film. So me and Niel arranged to film after school, which we did in a good amount of time. Then the next day we set about editing everything then joining it together to create the final edition of our opening sequence. To make sure that we completed everything before the deadline I stayed throughout the duration of lunch for editing and the rest of the group spent some time after school to make sure that everything was completed on time.

I created and finished the analysis of Wheelchair Bound quite a while ago. Then after changing the opening sequence I retouched the analysis, adding on where appropriate and it is completely done, with a little background information on Alfred Hitchcock who has been an inspiration for our opening sequence.

anybody's living room would have. This is representative of his character; seems completely

The Synopsis Of The Film

chair bound, teenage boy, begins to have disturbing dreams of female characters and his neighbour. Only to wake up to see the exact same women walking into the house accompanied by the neighbour. He then begins to keep tabs on the neighbour using a video camera to record his findings. Though danger seems to creep his way, as subtlety is not his strong point because they neighbour begins to become suspicious of someone watching him. As he cannot get solid evidence on his camera alone, he get his friend to help him, as she can get nearer to the neighbours house.  The neighbour is a serial killer, the teenager spends days making a diary of his findings see little things that can just LOOK wrong. Such as stroking females faces in a sinister way as they shiver away, or him looking towards a door and then backing away cautiously, or even some of them apparently “fainting”. However appearing like some fishy is going on isn’t enough to convict a man. It is obvious that this dark sinister man is up to no good, but is too clever to get caught. So in desperation for convicting evidence, the teenage girl breaks into the house with the camera. The film turns nasty as she is caught as the neighbour returns, now the....

The Preliminary Exercise

From this image to the next, it presents our use of match on action, which was one of the necessary criteria needed to be shown in the preliminary exercise. To do this we filmed Celine walking down the corridor and then into the tv studio. Then we fimed from the inside the tv studio, Celine looking and then walking through the door.

We were very careful here not to break the 180 degree rule. We had done it earlier, and found out only later when we were looking over our work on the camera. In the first shot you can see that we only let celine come up to a certain point, not letting her to start walking in another angle, because in the second shot, we have a long shot of Celine walking towards the table from a completely different angle and so if we had let her to start walking towards the table then it would have broken the 180 degree rule.

These are two over the shoulder shots which are examples from our shot-reverse-shot sequence. This was also one of the techniques we needed to use in order to complete the criteria for the preliminary exercise. Our method of doing this was to start the conversation over one persons shoulder then when we need to change over we cut and moved the camera. This worked well, however we could have filmed the whole conversation over one persons shoulder, then do it all over again over the other person. Then we would have edited it all out. What made this shot slightly different to our other shots was that the camera was at a lower angle, this was mainly to make the over the shoulder shots to really work.

THis is an example of a wide two-shot. By including this different shot it shows that our group tried to do a variety of shots and how successfully we can handle the camera because they came out well.

3.1 What I learnt by doing the preliminary exercise.

During the filming process, as someone who as never had any experience with media, I found it very beneficial. Through the preliminary exercise I am now confident with setting up the camera, filming and editing.

As part of my job, of being in charge of sound and props I made sure that everyone came in with the right costumes and brought in any extra things that may have been needed for the film. For example we had to bring in some pills and open them to create something, that on camera would appear as cocaine. Also I learn that it is crucial that any background noise can be easily picked up by the camera so I had to make sure that there would be nobody around and that anyone not acting had to be silent.

After a quick tutorial, I was able to help the group set up the camera successfully and use it appropriately. For different shots we had to put the camera at different levels and arrange it in a in a certain frame. After our first session of filming, we looked over what we had and realised that we had missed out on a lot of the things we need to include in our preliminary exercise. We had broken the 180 degree rule and had missed out the shot-reverse-shot that was necessary. So we booked another slot to re-film everything. However, although the camera was obviously recording, we couldn't find our filming on the tape later on and so yet again we had to film everything from the beginning. By this time, as a group we were a lot more confident in what we were doing, so everything was done quicker and more efficiently. With shot-reverse-shot we had to keep on cutting and moving the camera so it faced a different direction which sometimes could be tricky to get just right.

As nobody from our group had ever done media before, it took a little longer for  us to do the editing process. Uploading our clips onto the mac wasn't extremely difficult, however when it got to the cutting and selecting part, in Final Cut Pro, it got a little more tricky and took a little longer for us to get the hang of. The cuts were pretty simple though we just had to cut the bad parts out and put the scenes in order, then making the title and credits were simple enough.

Overall, I am personally glad that we had to do this preliminary exercise as it gave me the chance to learn a few basics and the whole process has made me more confident with the camera, filming and editing process.
